Gertrude Lampkin Massey
Services for Gertrude Lampkin Massey, 82, of Barwick, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Barwick Baptist Church. The Rev. Elbert Channell and Rev. Colburn Hobbs will officiate and interment is in Roselawn Cemetery. Mrs. Massey passed away July 21, surrounded by her loving family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born, April 23, 1928, in Crisp County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late James T. and Susie Lampkin. On November 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Albert W. Massey, who preceded her in death. She was dedicated to her Lord by being a devoted, faithful and active Christian member of the Barwick Baptist Church and her Sunday School Class, “The Gleander”. She was employed at the Barwick and Pavo schools as a lunchroom worker for 8 ½ years. She was a nurse’s assistant for Dr. S.E. Sanchez of Barwick for 8 years and was a candy maker for Dillon Candy Company of Boston for 12 ½ years, where she was presented the first “Employee of the Year” award chosen by her co-workers. She retired at age 72 in 1999. On October 11, 1978, she proudly earned her GED through hard work and study. We would like to sincerely thank Hospice of Southwest Georgia for all their help, support and loving care they gave my mother. Survivors include daughter, Janice Massey-Saylor of Barwick; sister, Edith Hamilton of Orange Park, Fla.; faithful and loving nieces, Susan (Doodle) White and Jackie (Ralph) Hayslip all of Cordele; sister-in-laws, Pauline Lampkin of Thomasville, Bessie Mae Massey of Barwick, Thelma Massey of Norman Park; numerous other nieces and nephews; caring neighbors and friends, Juanita Davis and Son, Al, Joe and Diane Manley, Carolyn and Alton Kelly and Sandra and Kerry Harp. Those waiting in Heaven to greet her with open arms will be her husband, parents, sister, Francis Foster and brother, James Lampkin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roselawn Cemetery Fund, c/o the Barwick Baptist Church, 926 N. Massey, St., Barwick, GA. 31720. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com.
